Sometimes, I just don’t understand. When any portion of a strategy isn’t working… when any process isn’t providing a result… when any instance of productivity is reduced… these can always — ALWAYS — be traced back to leadership influence.

Why, then, does training those leaders seem to be such a struggle in most organizations? Why is leadership development even a conversation? Not which development, what approach, or how best to accomplish… all of those make sense. But whether we do it or not??

That, friends, should never, ever, be a question.

“Divas do it, golfers do it, pilots do it, violinists do
it, sprinters do it, soldiers do it, surgeons do it, astronauts do it…only business people think it isn’t necessary to train.”

Anyone striving to do their best, and any organization wanting their professionals to be and do their best, trains those professionals in their craft. Why, then, do we seem hesitant to do the same with leaders? Is it “Hey! I did it without any development,” or “We’ve got to cut costs somewhere, this is a good place,” or even simply “I don’t see the need…?”

Beats the helloutta me… I’m a reasonably intelligent person (watch it now…), and I just don’t get it. I do, however, get this: If we don’t train and develop our leaders, we can never claim to not know why we aren’t achieving any business results, goals, objectives, or strategies. We may not like the reasonbut… we know.

But that’s just me…
