Promotions are for LOSERS - Git 'er Done!
May At C-Level
|
|
It’s nearly the end of May. Q2 finale is hitting its stride, and 2019’s midpoint is within pitching wedge distance. It’s no longer a “new” year, and goals should be well on the way to fruition. Now’s the time—if you’re on track, great! If not, adjust now. If you can’t adjust enough to make it, change the goal.
Violently control what you can, influence if without direct control, or adapt to an outcome over which you have neither control nor influence. Those are your choices.

May has a couple of significant dates.
There’s Mother’s Day, of course. Took Traci and my younger daughter to lunch, then for a week-long respite at the beach. Ok, “Mother’s Day” may have been an excuse for the beach, versus the reason. Whatever. It was worth it regardless. The recharge was a big deal (don’t forget to do that for yourself!).
Oh, and Kevin and Linda celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary. Guess he should stop introducing her as his “ex-girlfriend.” She stopped thinking that was funny a long time ago.

Memorial Day was Monday. More than a three-day weekend and different than Veterans Day, we gave pause to remember and be thankful for those who gave their lives in service to our country. Since we’re both veterans, Kevin and I thank you for reflecting on that day of observance, and while we gave some, we’re honored to have known men and women who gave it all protecting our freedoms.

By D. Kevin Berchelmann
So, just got that big promotion, eh? Now, you’re “It.” Big Shot. Grand Poobah. Boss Hog. El Jefe. Shiznit. The Big Cheese. Uppity-Muckety-Muck. She who must be obeyed. Kahuna.
Sounds great, right? Finally, you’re a CXO, with all the rights, privileges, honors and benefits occurring thereto.
So I say, Congrats! Finally, you have all that extra money, private elevator, fancy business card and a big, honkin’ corner office... you big LOSER!

Too Much Work, Too Little Time
... Good Luck With That!
|
By Kevin Ross
During my last stint in the Pentagon, I worked for more than a few senior executives who were notorious for wanting too much in too little time. High achievers learned very quickly that the reward for hard work was more work.
In fact, my favorite quote (which I used like a club) was one attributed to the late Russian-born New York Times film critic, Abe Weiler:
“Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn’t have to do the work himself.”
