Leadership Has Laws; Being Perfect Isn't One of Them
April At C-Level

First, I know April showers bring May flowers, but whoever's praying for rain in the Houston area...  stop it!

Okay, it's time for a Plan Check.

You're four months into the year; yep, a third of 2016 is in the history books.

How are you--and those you lead--doing with your 2016 goals and objectives? Have you started those initiatives? Are you a third of the way to completion? If so, great; if not, why not?

Or maybe you don't know. If that's the case, there's no better time to do a quick check. Ask for, and insison credible status updates that are helpful to you and those you lead. Do it now, because a little later comes a heck of a lot sooner than most of us realize. It shouldn't take long - like a glance in the rearview mirror.

But don't get distracted from where you're going by staring at last quarter's numbers. That'd be like driving your car staring in the rearview mirror... a disaster looking for a place to happen. Keep your sights set on where you want to go, and stay aware of what's going on around you.
We're about to close out our 2016 Survey of Senior Leadership, Triangle Performance LLC's ninth  annual survey focused on future concerns and business priorities. We've had great participation so far, so thanks to those of you who have taken the opportunity to provide inputs. If you missed our email earlier this month with the link, please take a couple of minutes to complete the survey here. We'd love to hear your thoughts.
Finally, if you feel like your leaders - at any and all levels - are struggling now, this last week of April, you can be sure it will only be magnified as 2016 progresses. Get them the skills and development they need. As always, call if we can assist in that regard.

P.S. Mother's Day's May 8th. Don't let it sneak up on you!

The 5 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership
by D. Kevin Berchelmann

Leaders, new and old, sometimes lose sight of the most fundamental tenets of leadership. Here's a reminder...

I frequently tell executives that leadership - its concepts, theory, and core applications - haven't changed in a millennium. Some our demographics may have changed, forcing us to use alternative applications of those concepts, but the basic concepts and theory remain.

So, why don't we "just do it?" Sometimes we aren't motivated; sometimes the "time" just doesn't seem right.  Maybe we simply forgot some of the basics... hence this article.

Several years ago, my sister gave me a book about how to deal with the controlling perfectionists in our lives. She said I might benefit from an impartial description of - get this - me.

Ouch.

Okay, so I only had two standards: perfect and unacceptable. That didn't make me a bad person did it?
